TN: Taupenot-Mermes Charmes-Chambertin 1998

  • 1998 Domaine Taupenot-Merme Charmes-Chambertin - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru (12/8/2019)
Lives up to its name, just a charming bottle of wine at the moment. Welcoming, sweet nose, with raspberries, maybe a little rhubarb, and even a hint of black truffle. It shows true in the mouth, coating the palate, velvety kirsch leading to considerable finish where the truffle, tingle of acidity, and slight black pepper note all play a role. Does not have the depth of material of some GC’s but a very nice drink, in its prime, which could surely be hold for 5-10 more years. (93 pts.)
