Three Beautiful Whites

2007 Coche-Dury Meursault Les Vireuils Domaine et Selection: Incredibly youthful, with a pale colour and piercing citrus nose. There is a light butteriness and a palate that is dense, linear and oh so chalky. There’s smoky mineral reduction and length to burn. If the cork holds out, this wine could live for another 30-40 years. Superb!

1995 Giaconda Chardonnay Estate Vineyard: Possesses a gold colour with a fresh green tinge. The wine is somewhere near its absolute apogee. Great nose of toast, white peach, fig and almond butter. It is rich, voluminous and powerful, with good detail of orchard fruit flavours and a finish that drives on and on.

1976 Maison Leroy Meursault Les Chevallières: Much fresher than its bronze/golden colour would suggest. Plenty of mushroom and truffle development. There’s some custard apple and a core of tinned peach fruit. It has spice and loads of butter, finishing with relatively low acid but high energy and outstanding length of aniseed tinged flavour.

These all sound great, except for maybe the

the core of tinned peach fruit

in the Leroy; what’s up with that?

Do you not like tinned peaches Joshua? My description relates to a candied fruit quality that is quite pleasant in this wine.

No usually don’t, Jeremy,

But your explanation helps.
