2013 Dirler-Cade Gewurztraminer Kessler- France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru (11/25/2019)
Rich, and pretty sweet Gewurztraminer that has all the classic varietal markers. The rose aromatics are especially pronounced, with the pineapple playing a secondary role. Lychee and a touch of honey (a little botrytis?) come in towards the finish.
If I was going to demonstrate sweet Gewurztraminer to someone who had never tasted it, this would be a good wine for the job.
That’s a problem in many Alsace GWT…a bit too sweet. I like their aromatics but they get kinda tiring on the palate.
Don’t go well with my weenies & kraut.

Glad the typicity showed for you in this bottle, David. I only have notes on the 2009, tasted 2.5 years ago. Sweet yes. Typicity? No, at least not for me:
"2009 Dirler-Cade Kessler Gewurtz
Very odd and different aromatic, I get pineapple and tarragon. Taste, wow is this sweet. As in late-harvest kind of sweet. It has some latent spiced interest but have to agree with Nick that it doesn’t speak at all to typicity."
The Kessler is always the richest/most opulent of the Dirler Grand cru Gewurz.
Im more a fan of the Kitterle in good years, and the Spiegel.
I will visit with the Dirlers later this week to taste the '18s.
To my taste, about as good as it gets in Alsace.
