I last opened one in 2012 and it was young but fleshed out with air.
Debating opening one, too. Will report back if I do.

I just pulled:
2011 Mount Eden Chardonnay Estate
2011 Alban Reva
2013 Littorai The Pivot
2010 Shafer Relentless
We have a lot of smoked meats, including turkey, so thought the fuller body wines might pair well.

Re: Thanksgiving Day Wine Lineup
In super south outskirts Colorado with wifes fam but found a gem of an old liquor store that has some old bottles that have absolutley been sitting there since release. Snagged a 98 Mondavi Reserve and an 03 Ridge Lytton West Syrah.
Mondavi cab was great with fully resolved tannins, red fruits, tobacco, and a strong/dominant olive note.
03 Ridge is fantastic. Violets, pepper, purple fruits, and slight hint of meat. Beautiful , full bodied minus fruit but plenty of acidity to keep it fresh. Prime time enjoyment right now and perfect with classic T-Day food.

It was excellent. As you can see the color it is much darker, but it was still golden rather than brown. The taste was caramel and
a bit nutty. We served it brie, fig and prosciutto tartlets that complemented the wine nicely.

Re/ 84 Montelena chard - very cool, what did you serve there with it?
Lots of excellent choices here. We went with
2017 Ancillary Chard El Diablo
2017 Becklyn Reserve (so freaking good)
2012 Two Hands Shiraz
Also made a milk washed cocktail (bourbon, lemon, honey and black tea) beforehand. That crushed.

NV Hambledon Classic Cuvee. A tasty, rich English sparkler. Great starter.
2016 Confuron-Cotetidot Chambolle-Musigny. This was stems on the nose and stemmy tannins the whole time. Started to open up after a couple hours but there was little Chambolle beauty in this wine. My first Confuron, and probably my last that I pay for.
2018 Domaine de la Grand'Cour Fleurie. Textbook Cru Beaujolais. Went really well with everything.
1946 Domaine Singla Rivesaltes Ambré Héritage du Temps. Good, and always a treat to be able to share something that's older than the host at a family dinner like this.

Two Kistler, a 2000 kistler Pinot, cuvée Elizabeth, and a 2006 kistler chard, cuvée Cathleen. Had them open and nestled on a corner of the deck to cool off, but the dog knocked them over and about half of each was lost. To ease my sorrow I opened a 2006 Marcassin Pinot, Marcassin vnyd. Definitely made things better.

Ended up going with:
1988 Ravenswood Cabernet Sauvignon Gregory Vineyard
2004 Calera Pinot Noir Selleck Vineyard
2017 Kutch Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast
The Ravenswood was nice, very much alive although showed a bit too much brett for my Dad. The 2004 Calera was just fantastic, quite complex and nuanced yet absolutely delicious. The 2017 Kutch SC could probably use a good 1-2 years in the cellar but was already pretty open and accessible; as always, very tasty Pinot.

It's pretty good. It has a nice, rich, spicy leesy profile with good apple and poached pear and pie crust. Good enough acid keeps it all pretty well balanced. I think it's in the 93 point range, and is a very good sparkling wine for the price. Especially if you used the wine.com $100 off $300 purchase and tossed one in your cart! I'll keep an eye out.JohnP wrote: ↑December 2nd, 2019, 7:46 amHow was the 2012 Roederer Estate L'Ermitage? I popped the 2009 Roederer Brut afterwards for a little comparison in house style. The 2009 Roederer actually does hint at the 2009 Cristal. It carries the same peaches and cream fruit profile, but with more distinct citrus edge and a chalky/minerally finish. Hint of white flowers on the finish. I thought it was very nice as well and a decent contrast in style with the more overtly rich Roederer Estate L'Ermitage. Split in the room over preference, but level of quality was pretty close. Also a good price. Around that same 93 point range. Both were great buys and probably better QPR than the 2008 Billecart at $95 plus tax.
