TN: 2009 Château Rol Valentin (France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru)

  • 2009 Château Rol Valentin - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru (11/13/2019)
During the 09 EP, I rated the wine 98 pts. It was a hedonistic wine with a sensual palate. The last bottle drunk in Feb, 2018 was dominated by oak and wasn’t terribly expressive. From a half bottle, expressive nose displaying sweet ripe black fruit, blackberry liqueur, blackberry, black cherry, chocolate dipped strawberry, leather, a hint of oak, dark spices and mineral. Youthful yet harmonious palate, very finely layered ripe black fruit, silky, warm and sensual, bright acidity, good mineral presence and a long ripe black fruit driven finish. This bottle demonstrates a glimpse of the original promise. (94 pts.)

Nice ! don’t hear about this one much

I had a 2005 Rol Valentin not long ago and found it very fresh and balanced. At <$50 it was a very good buy.
