Wow, this is excellent! Fan of their whites but this was my first red. David Girard Vineyard. Highly recommended!
Wow man, sounds excellent!
You’d dig it buddy. No disrespect to D&R or Sandlands as I love what both Hardy and Teagan do with the grape…but this is the best domestic Mataro I’ve had this year. 2nd glass has evolved even more with a kinda sappy note that I’m enjoying. Really, really impressive.
Oof.
I want.
It’s that good man. Find some for sure!
the lighter style of zin and Nebbiolo Craig is making are wonderful too.
I’m all in on on trying the reds moving forward. Especially Interested in that zin.
I had never heard of this outfit and just tried the 2016 mokelumne Syrah. I have never even heard of the area where the grapes seems to originate, mokelumne river which is kind of close to Sacramento, I think. It was a recommended by a wine guy at Cortis in Sacramento and is quite good. Well made, classic Syrah with mainly red but dark fruits as well. Good grip and finish and the correct level of ripeness. Quite enjoyable and at $25 would happily try again. Does not seem like old bones kind of stuff but with a new wine without a track record, who knows. Anyhow this note prompted my to pipe up on this different wine, thx
Awesome note John! Given how impressive this Mataro was (and as you pointed out, the very reasonable price), I’ll absolutely try the Syrah on the next release as well.
Thanks for posting!
