TN: 2016 Mount Veeder Winery Cabernet Sauvignon (USA, California, Napa Valley)

Uh, oh!

I better go try to compare.

This is so interesting, I find that wine to be very up/down from year to year.

That’s why I love this hobby!! [cheers.gif]

This is a winery Constellation could really do something great with, Schrader on the Napa floor for vineyards with Beckstoffer/To-Kalon and this as their mountain property.

I love mountain-terroir wines, especially from Howell Mountain. This winery, however, has similarly been spotty, in my experience.

I really liked the 2014 vintage and bought a case for weeknight dinners, and parties–how does the 2016 compare, to the 2014–if you’ve had it?

Sounds like a good review for a $30 Napa Cab.

Its Napa Valley appellation, it isn’t all Mt. Veeder fruit, much comes from floor or they would label it Mt. Veeder appellation.

Appreciate all the feedback on the winery. Scooped up a 3L of the 2013 from Costco for like $100 (cant remember exactly).

No idea when I’ll open that…but a total impulse purchase, much like the 3-packs of beef jerky they give samples of right by the checkout lines.

Agreed - should certainly be better than the extremely consistent “decent but nothing special” producer that they are.

I picture something giving Lokoya a run for $, keep a $40 or $50 Napa Cab, but make the Reserve a killer Mt. Veeder AVA wine.

Lokoya was much cheaper, when Liparita.

And not nearly the wine it is today. It is the pinnacle for Mt. Veeder Cabernet.

To my taste for restrained-fruit but complex wines, that is fine.
