TNs: 2014 Michel Niellon Batard Montrachet 1966 Palmer

In NYC for some food and music. I have had a chance to have the amazing 2014 Michel Niellon Batard a couple of times. It hasn’t disappointed.
Last night at The Modern the Niellon was paired with the 1966 Palmer. A great night of food and wine!

2014 Michel Niellon Batard Montrachet - Light golden color. A beautiful nose of golden fruit. Very lively. A beautiful wine of power and refinement on the palate. The texture and balance are incredible on the palate. Wonderful length. The wine expands the whole night. Great after 30 minutes. Superb!

1966 Palmer - A fill to the highest part of the shoulder. Decanted. The nose is immediate and satisfying. Complex darker fruit. Penetrating. Earthy. A feminine character that extends to the palate. Extremely complex darker fruit that is so elegant and long. Not overpowering. Perfect proportion. Absolutely amazing.

I can’t thank the somms at the Modern enough. They did a great job handling the wines. This is a first rate operation. Inventive food. To me some of the best in NYC.

I also want to thank the somms at Marea too. We had a bottle of the Niellon Batard there with that amazing food. Always terrific.
