TN: 2016 Tenuta San Guido Bolgheri Sassicaia Sassicaia

  • 2016 Tenuta San Guido Bolgheri Sassicaia Sassicaia - Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri, Bolgheri Sassicaia (10/19/2019)
A wonderfully calm and even nose. There are briary fruits along with black cherry and spiced plum. It has the scent of violets and some cedar. The palate is powerful and intense, but light on its feet and tannins simply occupy a space. There’s some chalkiness to the extremely long finish and the crackling energy of the vintage. Is it the best Sassicaia since the legendary 1985? Could be.

Bold words my friend. After 30 years maybe it’s time for a new king. Thanks for the note.

It is not as good as the '85, Brad. That was one of the greatest young wines I have drunk. But I reckon it is every bit as good as any of the ones that have come after.
