TN: 2014 Domaine Armand Rousseau Charmes-Chambertin

Spotted this on a list at a good price. We had selected some duck as part of our very tasty dinner at Supernormal in Melbourne.

I was expecting a charming wine, but this was indeed very serious, dark and brooding with quite structured tannins. For the first time in my life I requested that a Burg be be decanted, which the Somm. endorsed. Initially it was tight and broody, with air it started to show its perfume and darker fruits, the tannins becoming less obtrusive, but still showing a certain austerity. The density of the wine was surprising, and it matched remarkably well with a gamut of dishes including a stunning schezuan style shoulder of lamb.

Sounds very smart mate. Supernormal is a quality establishment.

Sounds more like a 2015 than a 14. Maybe 14s are starting to firm up?

Larry,
I do not have a strong handle on 14s at present, having only tried a few, but I do feel as though they are wines with decent stuffing, but yes this wine could easily pass as a '15.
If I see any more '14 Rousseaus at the right coin, I won’t hesitate to buy them.

Sounds excellent.
