TN: 2011 Chateau Montus Madiran

I could have easily guessed this as Sociando Mallet, with the savory herbal component. Black and red fruits intermingle with savory green herbs, saddle leather and tobacco and medium plus acidity. Hard to believe this isn’t Bordeaux but 80% Tannat and 20% Cabernet. Really cool wine and happy to have more in cellar to see what develops.

The few times I’ve had this estate I thought they were pretty stern. I’ve got a 2010 laid down to see if it rounds out at all by age 15-20 or so. Sociando Mallet seems like a fair comparison.

Arv,

I have a 1995 somewhere in cellar. This was surprisingly approachable.

That 95 is excellent. I feel these need about 20 years to begin to show well (at least the ‘Prestige’ bottlings)

The 95 Prestige is really excellent

This is a good wine especially with age.

We had a 95 within the past 2 years. The tannins were tamed and the wine was in an excellent place.
