TN - 16 W. Scott X Novo & 09 Comte A. Clos Epeneaux Pommard

  • 2016 Walter Scott Chardonnay X-Novo Vineyard - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills (8/31/2019)
As many have noted, the nose carries a bot of sulfery reduction with traces of matchstick. Give this air if you can. Pristine and chiseled, this hits with an immediate attack of powerful citrus rind, powdery stone, and a classy back end of minerals and flint. A little wood is detected, and quite frankly, I think it is a necessary binding agent in this case. This is worth a shot drinking now, but loaded with potential in 5 years + (94 pts.)

  • 2009 Comte Armand Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru (8/31/2019)
Decanted 2hrs. A real chameleon of nose and in constant motion, changing from dark fruits and spice in one moment, to earthy and wood touches the next. I think additional air would have helped, but it was great nonetheless. Fairly open ands accessible, a most impressive core of dark raspberry that was pure and carried an almost crystalline like edge. While seductive, no shortage of Pommard muscle, and the combo of the two was very appealing. Excellent. (94 pts.)
