TN: 1961 Louis Latour Chambolle-Musigny

  • 1961 Louis Latour Chambolle-Musigny - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny (8/26/2019)
There’s some coffee at first but within a few minutes it begins to bloom. You get the scent of roses, beef stock, Earl Grey tea and cardamom. It is sweet and vinous in the mouth, with good volume and depth. Each sip brings on a new floral nuance and the finish is savoury and length very good.

Wow, sounds delicious. I’m a fan of Louis Latour, but have only tried their grand crus in recent vintages. Glad to know the old timers are still showing well.

I think they have already practiced the pasteurization then - but it seemes that most is worn out with age … I don’t like young L.Latour, but aged one can be vg.

It was the sort of bottle that you watch ‘flash past your eyes’ such was the deliciousness.

I’m sure you’ll find the chance to milk that one again. Pretty good.
