TN: 1996 Château Canon (France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru)

1996 Château Canon - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru (7/5/2019)
– decanted immediately before initial taste –
– tasted non-blind over a couple hours –

NOSE: black tea; camphor; eucalyptus; strong mineral earthy; plenty of tertiary character to go around here.

BODY: dark garnet-black color of medium-deep depth with bricking throughout; medium-light to medium bodied.

TASTE: probably in its prime drinking window right now; “dark” — dark fruits and leather; good acidity; lightly tannic; strongly tertiary. Drink now and over the next few years. Low-level excellent.

You dodged a TCA bullet.

This one’s notorious for it?

That’s wild, I don’t ever remember hearing about a TCA problem at Canon. I’ve only had the '96 once, ok but didn’t love, but that is '96 RB for me.
I’ve certainly drunk lots of Canon 1970-1990, and don’t remember many corked bottles. I don’t think I have had any 1991-1995, but CT doesn’t seem to show TCA flawed bottles.

News to me too, about the Canon TCA issue.

news to me too! luckily most of my Canon is post revitalize. but the 86 I had a couple years ago was why I got into wine!
