2013 Roy Piper Cabernet Sauvignon- USA, California, Napa Valley (8/12/2019)
2 hr decant. Best showing by far for this wine. Starting to unwind, and show a really well balanced wine through all the structure, with lots of black fruits, spice and earth notes. Still fairly tannic, but I wouldn’t hesitate to look in on one if you haven’t yet.
Couldn’t let this tasting note go without any comment. I haven’t opened a 13 yet, but love the wines - and Roy’s contributions to this board and the innards of winemaking.
I opened a 2013 last weekend at the cottage, which was my first taste of Roy’s wine!. I really enjoyed it and look forward to the continued evolution. I slow oxd for about 8 hours and it was in a really approachable and in a delicious spot.
