DRINKS AT PARK 90 - Park 90, Regent Hotel, Singapore (4/5/2019)
  • NV Roses de Jeanne / Cédric Bouchard Champagne Blanc de Noirs Cote de Bechalin - France, Champagne
    Quite a delightful Blanc des Noir NV. Disgorged only in April 2018, but already starting to drink quite nicely. It had a lovely, expressive nose, a full panoply of rich apple and red berry aromas, a lift florals and herb, a trace spice and mineral - an explosive bouquet. Really very pretty. The palate was still unsurprisingly youthful, with lemon sherbet freshness racing through rounder notes of apple and a bit of cherry flesh lurking behind, all this before a nice line mineral and just a spring of fresh green herb drew the wine into a long, slightly spicy finish. A champagne of effortless power, all beautifully poised and balanced, with well-integrated acidity and a lovely soft mousse. Not quite as explosive or complex as the nose - this still came about as quite youthful and primary on the palate, but it was certainly not far behind. A delightful delicious bottle, and a great way to start an evening. (93 pts.)
  • 2016 Coche-Dury Bourgogne Blanc - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
    As would be expected, this was a really solid Bourgogne. It started out a bit slow, but really grew wonderfully in the glass. Not priced like one of course, but it certainly showed its quality. The nose was just lovely, with sweet stone fruit, earth and mineral, along with a typical whiff of Coche-dury’s smoky flint. The palate had a nice sense of depth and breadth to it, with oily textured flavours of red apple and stone fruit laced with more of that flinty and a nice curl of spice, all this leading into a beautiful dry, stony, minerally finish. Lovely stuff, drinking wonderfully young. (92 pts.)
  • 2014 Faiveley Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
    Enjoyable, if just lacking some authority for a Grand Cru. The nose was very pretty, with plenty of flowers and fragrant wood spice, alongside deeper aromas of earth and meat, and then nice sweet wafts of dark berries and cherries. The palate was a touch of the skinny side for an Echezeaux, but had a nice sense of balance and structure, with fresh acidity and fine, chewy tannins wrapped around a bright core of dark berries and black cherries seasoned with a good mouthful of spice that absolutely filled the backpalate on the finish. Not the most complete wine, and it probably needs a good 4-5 years more before it truly drinks well, but this was pretty good. (92 pts.)
  • 2013 Domaine Dujac Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
    A touch stemmy, still primary, and definitely still a bit oaky when first opened, but once you got past that, this was really a beautiful wine. The nose was a lovely waft of sweet cherries and blueberries, a bit of fresh cut flowers and brambly herb, and then a real blast of woody Vosne spice. Very young, but so very attractive, and it just got better and better with some air. The palate was pure Dujac, transparent, limpid, with beautifully defined flavours of sweet cherries and blueberries on the attack, all this layered with delicious bits of earth and a hint of mineral on the midpalate, and then a wonderfully pristine finish full of warm spices and pure dark fruit riding on a bed of fine-boned tannins and chewy acidity. Young, still a bit shy, but perfectly balanced and beautifully defined - this was a wine of great polish and class. Superb stuff, with its best years decades ahead of it still. (94 pts.)
