Another restaurant wine list query

I have my own thoughts on what to order, but would be interested in what others think. What jumps out at you basically.

We will be dining at this place in about one months time, so there is no guarantee that (a) wine list is up to date or (b) the chosen wines will be available when we get there.

Assume a strict EUR 400 per bottle limit. My preferences are for more mature wines and both Germany and France are of interest. One white and one red.

Thanks in advance,

I would consider the following:-
Shafer Frolich GGs Riesling
the 97 or 99 Clos St Hune
Roulot Tessons

Ask teh Somms advice for a top German red, Pinot or other variety. I don’t know much about them but seems like agood opportunity to learn.

04 Rayas @ $318
Selosse Rose @ $248

Ramonet Ruchottes 2014
Rayas 2001

Cheating…that Rayas is $420.

Rayas 1999
Grange des Peres Blanc
Gantenbein Chardonnay…

Ramonet is £240. Under £800 total for bill.

The Grauburgunder GG from Sachsen, then the 1999 Rayas.

I understood your reasoning But he said STRiCT per bottle in the request so I assumed he meant it. [cheers.gif] obviously the Rayas are all steals…

Egon Muller’s 1995 Scharzhofberger Auslese for €298 is a pretty good deal…

Under your parameters, I’d have trouble passing on the 1990 Knoll Ried Schütt Riesling.

'82 Ducru and no problem finding a white under EUR 300.

Dan Kravitz

WHITES
1988 Hermann Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Spätlese
1992 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese trocken
1994 Markus Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese trocken** WK
1995 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese

REDS
1997 Rudolf Fürst Bürgstadt Centgrafenberg Spätburgunder « R » Spätlese trocken 1.5L
2003 Rudolf Fürst Bürgstadt Centgrafenberg Spätburgunder « R » 1.5L
2003 Rudolf Fürst Hunsrück Spätburgunder « R » 1.5L

I’d be tempted to go with sparkling for the white: Egly-Ouriet 2004 or Selosse Initial. Or maybe a Roulot from '11 or '14, or the 2014 Vernay Coteau du Vernon.

For red, maybe 2000 or 2001 Chave Hermitage.

Red-99 or 04 Rayas
White/Sparkling-Selosse Rose or 95 Bollinger RD

If willing to go younger, good value on Roulot and Liger-Belair 14s.
