TN: Jaffurs Syrah ThompsonVnyd '05...(short/boring)

Got my new Jaffurs futures offer, so dug back into:

  1. Jaffurs Syrah ThompsonVnyd/SBCnty (15.3%) 2005: Dark color; very strong blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah bit Thompson/peppery strong smokey/toasty/Fr.oak rather complex SBC Syrah nose; lightly tart strong SBCSyrah/blackberry/boysenberry/spicy/peppery strong toasty/smokey/oak bit dried out complex flavor w/ some drying/astringent tannins; very long lightly tart some drying out/astringent/tannic strong peppery/blackberry/ripe/boysenberry/Syrah strong toasty/smokey/oak complex flavor w/ some drying/astringent tannins; a beautiful complex peppery Thompson Syrah nose but becomming dried-out/astringent on the palate; well into its downside.

A wee BP:

  1. A bit surprised by this wine. It shoulda been in prime time. The nose was beautiful & showed no signs of age, but it was pretty dried out on the palate.

I’ve had really good luck with older Bien Nacido, Upslope, Verna’s, Stolpman, Melville, but hit or miss with Ampelos, Larner & Thompson.
