TN: 2015 Henri Germain et Fils Bourgogne Blanc (France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc)

In the midst of this age of “Burgundy is dead at retail”, “there is no value in Burgundy” and “Burgundy is a minefield” I continue with a really high success rate in this genre of entry level Bourgognes from respected domaines. This seemed riper fruited than the other 2015 white Burgundies at the same price range that I’ve had but not overly so. Probably would have benefited from some time in the cellar but I have no regrets.

Very expressive on the nose with a strong salty character and ripe, savory fruit (mostly lemon with a hint of pineapple). Some nuttiness as well - clearly oaked without being woody really. Quite luscious on the palate with again judicious oak rounding out the very generous concentration of fruit. Firm mouthfeel yet clearly Côte de Beaune, not Chablis. Very long and seamless finish. Chalky, definitely. A really well made wine that does not excel in complexity but is more than anything food friendly.
