Beaucastel 2000 Blanc

Glad to be back on the board after a long absence.

Was working in the cellar over the weekend and found this 2000 Beaucastel Blanc on the bottom row of a rack. Maderized. Not totally gone, but no fun to drink. No importer label so much have bought it on a trip to France at some point, on or close to release. Would have expected it to be in better shape.

O that’s too bad. 19 years and poof… If you have any of Faurie’s Hermitage blanc from that year, it’s drinking tremendously right now.

Steve,

Did you keep the bottle and allow it to get some oxygen and dry it the next day? Just curious as these wines can sometimes show some ‘not pleasant’ aromas upon opening but, with air, can gloriously be brought back to life.

Cheers.

Larry - I didn’t hold the wine. I have a bottle of the 01, and if it shows as maderized I’ll give it more time. Looking at other reviews, I see mixed feedback on the 2000, more consistently positive notes on the 01, so here’s hoping.
