Blind tasting the 2015 Bedrock Wine Co. Heritage Wine Evangelho Vineyard

2015 Bedrock Wine Co. Heritage Wine Evangelho Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Contra Costa County (6/5/2019)
Played a game with this wine, as my wife grabbed it from the cellar, and poured me a glass blind. All I knew was “red”, which is what I asked for.

I took a sip to check that the wine was sound, and then let it sit for thirty minutes while I finished dinner prep. Going back to it, the aromatics were red fruit focused, with a dusty trail/woodsy/herbal accent. The palate was medium bodied, and very well balanced. Good sustain on the finish, and a sort of sappiness - a real depth to the fruit, as if fresh fruit had been lightly crushed and allowed to juice out. That sappiness reminded me of one thing - Evangelho. I get it in every Evangelho wine I drink.

She asked me what I thought it was, and I said Evangelho vineyard. Producer was easy after that, as it was clearly not Dirty & Rowdy Mourvedre, and my only other Evangelho was Bedrock. I didn’t do the vintage guessing thing.

Fun exercise.

Wow, nice work on calling the wine! I’m impressed. I’ve only done that once…with a Cab from DuBrul Vineyard in Washington. Sounds like a nice wine.

Impressive! And great note. I have a lot of experience drinking Bedrock reds but there is zero chance I could blindly pick out one of their single vineyards.

Thanks for the tasting note! Congratulations on the hit
