TN: 1999 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese

1999 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (6/2/2019)
From the first sip it is apparent that this wine is fully ready to drink, as the apple and lemon cream of youth has been joined by smoky, salty and pine tones. The texture is bordering on creamy, but stays livelier than that, with each element in balance. It’s singing a beautiful harmony, and is likely to stay that way for maybe 30 or 40 years.

That sounds AMAZING. Thanks for sharing, David.

I wish that I knew what I know now, when I was younger (when it comes to JJ Prum).
More please.
Sounds great, David.

Even with vintages going back to 1996, I feel the same way.

A bottle of the 1999 WS Auslese last week was pretty incredible as well, with a fair bit of petrol on the nose, lively fruit, and the prismatic interplay of sweetness and tartness that makes these wines so versatile and compelling.

David - what do you eat when drinking Spätlese?

I’m not David, but it goes well with roast chicken and pork, and I consider sweet riesling with pretty much any smoked fish to be a God-given combo.

Last night’s dinner was grilled pork and some Indian spiced quinoa. Worked great.
