TN: 2009 Col Solare (USA, Washington, Columbia Valley)

  • 2009 Col Solare - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (5/28/2019)
Day 1: Bing cherries, dark chocolate, baking spices, oak and roasted nuts. Firm tannins. Medium to long finish. Should get better on day 2. 90 points
Day 2: Big wine with Bing cherries, dark chocolate, spices, leather, roasted nuts and oak. Medium to long finish. Not much change on this one. I like the wine but not as complex as I would hope for the price point. Solid 90 points.
Day 3: Not much improvement. I don’t see this wine every reaching great heights. A bit over priced for what it delivers. 90 points
Recommendation: Don’t buy unless you can get it under $35. (90 pts.)

So we won’t be stopping at Ste. Michelle in June to try these wines.

Chateau Ste. Michelle is a nice stop regardless of what you think about Col Solare. It’s a beautiful estate and their base wines offer tremendous QPRs. There are some nice wines, too, in the Ethos (Reserve) label. I agree that Col Solare under-delivers for the price…just don’t judge CsM based on that one wine.

I think Col Solare are interesting but do not wow me.

It consistently goes on sale every fall at my local shop for 34.99, I like it at that price

Yes we can skip this one.
