TN: 2009 Bodegas Muga Rioja Selección Especial

  • 2009 Bodegas Muga Rioja Selección Especial - Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja (5/24/2019)
Day 1: Very subtle nose. Palate features leather, raspberries, mushrooms and oak. On the finish picks up some vanilla notes and spices. Medium plus finish. Solid and in peak drinking window. Would not hold these much longer. 91 points
Day 2: Menthol, mushrooms, mild oak and leather. Notes much fruit as day 1. Solid 91 points
Day 3: Really coming together with menthol, mushrooms, raspberries, ripe peaches of all things and leather. Very balanced wine and medium finish. Delicious. 92 points
Recommendation: Drink this wine now. (92 pts.)

Don’t know this bottling but Muga must be making it in a modern style. Some of the best extra old riojas have been made by Muga, just had an 85 Prado Enea that was singing.
