- The first world war has ended. Ink is barely dry on the armistice. Spain is recovering from the flu. This Rioja went into vinification. In short, one of the few Audoze moments I’m likely to have in my lifetime. Served at The Painted Lady in Newberg, Oregon.
Nose: truffles for days. A little leather. Some fruit wafting in from the next room. A hint of black licorice.
Palate: medium body, medium acid. No real fruit left, but rhubarb still echoes. Leather, smoke, truffle. Medium round tannins that float off the tongue. Medium finish.
A real treat.
Found some more info on the wine here. Looks like it spent 27 years in oak in total. Crazy.
