Popped this last night. My last bottle of the couple I got in recent history.
1978 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde- France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie (5/18/2019)
Still holding in a great spot. Animale, and barnyardy earth on the nose. Sweet plummy fruit with just wisps of acidity holding. Initially, it felt like it was going to be a- hurry and drink this before it fades- but it kept unfolding and the acid seemed to come on as it sat open. Still very good.
We had one of these maybe 10-15 years ago, unfortunately our example had faded quite a bit.
I remember much more vividly a Chapoutier white Hermitage from that evening that either Paul J. or Joe Cz had brought. My first taste of one of those rarities and it was a stunner.
