TN: 1978 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde

Popped this last night. My last bottle of the couple I got in recent history.

Still holding in a great spot. Animale, and barnyardy earth on the nose. Sweet plummy fruit with just wisps of acidity holding. Initially, it felt like it was going to be a- hurry and drink this before it fades- but it kept unfolding and the acid seemed to come on as it sat open. Still very good.

This was my first Cote Rotie…N. Rhone actually…nearly 35 years ago. Thanks for the memories! Nice to see it still drinking…

We had one of these maybe 10-15 years ago, unfortunately our example had faded quite a bit.

I remember much more vividly a Chapoutier white Hermitage from that evening that either Paul J. or Joe Cz had brought. My first taste of one of those rarities and it was a stunner.

Cool note and photo on a wine I’ve not/wished had. But liked the 80s versions I’ve had, especially the 83 and 85.

Patiently holding on to my remaining 91.

Nice! My history is much more recent, but yes, still terrific!

Thanks, guys.
