Beta Wine Release?

#1 Post by T.Phillips » May 11th, 2019, 7:48 am

Anyone have any info on this years release? Looks like the 2011 and 2012 release was around this time last year.

Thanks

Funny -- I just sent them an email asking the same question. Haven't heard back yet.

Not recently, as I only have 1 left from last years release. But we loved it and everyone that tried it with us loved it. A killer, fresh take on an old school napa cab style is kinda how we thought of it. Cant wait to get more

When I visited Ketan last June he said he was thinking the 2013s would be released last fall. Well, here we are...

Opened both, preferred the 11. Good solid mountain cabs, well worth the $75

If you go to CT you'll see there are entries (though no bottles showing yet) for 2013, 2014 and...2016. [dontknow.gif]

Had a bottle of the 12 last night with dinner. Last year i preferred the 11 slightly when trying a bottle of each. Thought last nights was best of the bunch. As noted above these are not big wines by today's Napa standards but i very much enjoyed. And very good with the meal.

Last time, for montecillo, they were 85 so I would assume somewhere in that area. Not sure on the new vineyard addition

Interesting note: they're making two separate wines from the Jasud property. Given the 2013s are just showing up, I guess we'll know more in [checks watch] 2025.

I think 2013 Beta magnums are an excellent idea.

Order in for two 3 packs. As I have so much wine, I don't really need more than 2 bottles of each one. So if someone would like to share and have one bottle of each can provide at my all in cost. PM if interested

Getting some Vare from another WBer. Debating the Montecillo since 2013 was such a good year, but I probably don't need 3 bottles of it.

Ugh, was hoping I could purchase one of each but it forces 3-pack or nothing. Is this common? I am only on a few lists so I really don't know. If anyone is willing to split it up and sell at cost locally (sonoma/napa) or trade for something I'd be interested.

3 pack min is pretty common for smaller producers.

Separately, I just ordered a 3 pack of the Montecillo. Vare was gone. If anyone in NYC got some Vare and wants to swap a bottle, lemme know.

I passed this morning as I was looking for the estate wine. I’m interested in the story but mainly as a farmer/winemaker so for me the purchased fruit wasn’t as enticing at the price point. I wonder why he has been sitting on these for so long?

It may be comparing apples and oranges, but I noted with interest the difference on this board between the Hors Categorie release (Christophe Baron exclusive project $500/ two-pack), and the Beta release, which happened on the same day.

Zero comments on the HC release. Many on the Beta release, and now it is sold out.

I purchased 3X of both Betas, and have not pulled the trigger on the HC release. Not sure I will.

Again, maybe apples and oranges, but it was a decision that was in front of me, and I thought the relative interest here was... interesting.

New will always be hot. Not to mention the relative price difference, cheap(ish) Napa Cabernet vs the most expensive WA syrah.

I had it with Ketan last November on the mountain, and then he gave us a bottle that we drank at dinner that night. I loved it - a great balance of creaminess and acidity.

You would be wise to buy it Brian . i suspect it will be nothing like the buttery osky style and that it will likely have nothing in common with other Ca chards. His winemk9ng skill with the reds and this chard is fromm the same mountsin site fashioned from 50 year old vines. Yhis is the last chance as the vineyard is being ripped up soon.
