TNs: Potpourri -- Mostly French

Brief impressions of wines consumed over past three weeks, a la Cowan.

Moreau-Naudet & Fils, Chablis, Vaillons 1er cru, 2015
Correct, but a bit flabby. Lacks a second gear. A wine of the vintage.

Barthod, Bourgogne, Bons Batons, 2016
Volume, clarity and complexity that belies its Bourgogne status. Stony succulence marries well with 16 vintage. Great at its level.

Vino di Anna, Jeudi 15, Vino Rosso
Glou-glou wine from the terraces of Mt. Etna. Easy-to-like Nerello Mascalese but could use a bit more intrigue. For nature lovers.

Suenen, NV Champagne, Cramant, Rose
Low-dosage rose that’s crisp, racy and precise. 93% Chard. A bit lean for my tastes.

Arnaud Lambert, Saumur rouge, Breze, Clos de L’Etoile, monopole, 2014
Still a baby but breeding shows – spice, herbs and tart blackberries. Nothing funky here. Miles to go. My kind of Cab Franc.

Chateau Raymond Lafon, Sauternes, 2003
Beautiful dried apricot color, cream and Xmas spice on palate. Medium-bodied. Could use touch more acid. Nothing flashy but very satisfying.

“For nature lovers.” [rofl.gif]
