2008 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Château d’Ampuis - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie (4/29/2019)
Opened by Allred at dinner last weekend. Not sure of the decanting. My favorite red of the night. 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier. Deep crimson color. This was richly textured and deep. Notes of dark chocolate, black pepper and other spices and garrigue. A full bodied and luscious wine. Still quite youthful with a creamy finish. By far the best Ampuis I have had (the others being the 1999, 2000 and 2011). I think my score is the highest on Cellartracker but this was very tasty. 96-97 points.
