TN: 2004 Corte Campagnola Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

  • 2004 Corte Campagnola Amarone della Valpolicella Classico - Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico (4/25/2019)
I have not had a lot of Amarone so I can’t compare this with others, but I think it was an outstanding wine that went down very smoothly with fully resolved tannin, red fruit, a spicy backbone/rear palate and a whiff of chocolate. CT says I bought this in 2013, but I’m going to guess that is a data entry error, probably when I got around to putting it in the correct slot. Definitely worth the wait and the best of a group of 12 assorted non-Sangiovese Italian wines at the local amateur wine group tasting night. Someone else brought a young Amarone, 2015-ish, and although I found similar flavors, that was a disjointed mish-mosh that was rough all around, while this was the same flavors with smoothness and elegance.
