TN: Von Winning 2010 Kalkofen Riesling Grosses Gewachs - Surprisingly good, and aging rather well. Has taken on a nice, mature, more golden color. IIRC, these were a little controversial because of their use of barrels, but there’s nothing “oaky” about the wine.
Aromas of golden grahams, honey, apricot, nectarine and peach, with hints of ginger in the back. A full-bodied Riesling, but with more acidity than Alsace and less alcohol than Austria. Has the flamboyant tropical notes of the Pfalz, but also retains a fresh streak of chalk and acid even as the fruits turn more golden. Rich dry extract gives this excellent length.
