Tasting notes è 2018 Bordeaux en primeur

Hi,

Tasting during en primeur week is truly a marathon, but a fascinating experience.

In fact, one week is not enough. i spent ten days and still left many worthwhile wines untasted.

It seems a little unfair to me to pin wines down to a percentage point, so I have adopted a way of rating wines I first saw with Clive Coates: Good/Very Good/Excellent/Superlative. As for those wines that I had a poor impression of, I did not beat about the bush but said that they needed to be retasted at a later date to have a fair shake.

A consensus is emerging about 2018 Bordeaux and, insofar as vintage genearlities are true, I mainly agree that there are similarities between 2018 and 2016, but that the latter is more regular. That having been said, 2018 is unquestionably a very good year on both sides of the river.

It would be far too long to post on Berserkers
I would like to point out that my blog is totally non-profit.

I may not see any responses because I am heading out tomorrow to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in France and will walk from there to Santiago de Compostela. That’s about 800 km.

All the best,
Alex R.
