A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. Iuli: I was most impressed by the Iuli Malidea Nebbiolo. So I wanted to try their Grignolino, one of my favorite Piemonte varieties. I was expecting a fragrant light-bodied Grignolino. This was a pretty heavily extracted Grignolino, though, more like their Nebbiolo. Did not go at all with this terrific DrFieldGoods BUtcher Shop ham w/ a bourbon/rum/Corti orange marmalade/mustard/balsamic glaze, which was quite sweet, but absolutely delicious.
Fabrizio Iuli is interested in reviving the fortunes of some of the ancient Piemontese varieties like Slarina (red grape) and Baratuciat (white grape…meaning “cat’s testicles” in local dialect). Obviously, would love to try those wines.
