Vosne-Romanee CLOS GOILLOTTE .... what? ...

If you haven´t noticed yet: the prices for the Village monopole
Vosne-Romanée CLOS GOILLOTTE
property of Domaine Prieuré-Roch
have skyrocked since the passing of owner Henry-Frederic Roch last fall.
Nothing available below 500 € any more, sometimes 1000.00+
Crazy?

I have tasted the wine from this small Village site only twice, but both times without much enthusiasm,
good wine, slightly over-oaked, but definitely nothing special, quite expensive in the higher 2-figure range.
Now?

Easy pass.

Stopped by the domaine’s restaurant in NSG (“Le Bist’roch”) last week and ordered a bottle of NSG 1er Cru vieilles vignes 2009. I was totally floored by how good it was. None of the 2009 OTT richness I was fearing. So fragrant and elegant. To me this fell squarely in the Bizot/(Dom) Leroy territory, quality wise. Issue (for me) is variability in their wines.

Actually I noticed it two days ago when I saw an offer well in the 500-somethings … and I googled and saw these crazy prices.

This hype is completely unjustified (except that the owner has passed away) … the quality is rather mean, certainly not consistently excellent …
and I have no idea who is going to pay THESE prices!
