TN: 2013 Etienne Sauzet Bourgogne Blanc (France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc)

Having had a few grander wines from Sauzet in the past I was looking forward to a more chiseled, acid-driven wine here. That was not the case but a very nice wine it is nevertheless and it worked to perfection with our dinner: pan-fried chicken with parsley, white wine sauce and some freshly squeezed lemon. Despite being fairly full-bodied it has only 12.5% ABV and the evaporation rate was indeed very high -I would not have minded a bigger bottle!

Popped and poured at cellar temp. All business on the nose with restrained lemony fruit, smoke, vanilla and slight nuttiness. Very moderate oak, which is nice. Quite mouth-filling with very respectable viscosity, this is no featherweight despite its lowly appellation. Acidity does not stick out but it is definitely there to provide appropriate lift and drive. Concentrated, firm and powerful with a spicy finish. Deliciously savory despite being fairly ripe-fruited and while on the rich side maintains a good balance. Very good for its level.
