How long to leave bottle upright for sediment to settle?

Hello

I have a 2009 bottle of Bordeaux that has a fair amount of sediment in it. Its been lying on its side in my cellar.

How long should I let it stand upright for the sediment to settle before I open it?

surprised it’d have that much sediment. But a couple days should suffice at that age

At that age, I think standing it up a few hours ahead would be fine. It’s only wines with lots of fine sediment that need to stand for days, and I can’t imagine that fine sediment has developed in an '09 Bordeaux. It’s more likely that it’s material that wasn’t filtered out at bottling, which should fall out quite quickly.

Agree with John. It can be very wine specific. Old nebbiolo throws very fine sediment and can need weeks standing up.

If I don’t have a proper cellar (just a smaller wine fridge that’s usually full), where’s the best place for me to stand the bottle up if I needed to do it for a few days?

Room temperature is not going to hurt a 2009 Bordeaux for a few days. Just put it in the coolest location you have out of direct sunlight.
