TN: Veuve Extra Brut Extra Old

This was again great.

Freshly toasted brioche on the nose with some lemon zest. Very fine mousse.

Nice acidity and a light touch on the palate, some some creaminess and complexity. Not a heavy champagne by any means, lithe and graceful if anything. Very nice finish.

This is worlds different than the ponderous NV yellow label, and sort of like what you’d expect a solera of older Grande Dame would taste like. Lovely.

Michael,
Thanks for posting this note. I have a few, but have yet to open one. I went to their website for some further information. It’s made with reserve wines from 1988, 1996, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010, each aged a minimum of three years on the lees in vats. (I wonder what percentage is 2010; it’s the weakest of all those in the blend). It is very low dosage (3 gm/L). I’ll have to dig one out of my jumbled cellar and give it a try.
Cheers,
Warren
