With a hand blown bottle does one have to worry about the consistency and accuracy of the bore entry??

As for Todd I believe he is a mythical creature who embodies all characteristics of winery owners, good and bad. We project our fantasies of what winery owners do onto The Todd.

Can someone explain the background/relevancy of "Todd?"
He’s the winemaker at Anderson Conn Valley
, which is of course very respectable winery overall. Something like 15 years ago or so the advertising for his Ghost Horse offshoot hit the internet. Hilariously Bad pictures and website along with seemingly impossible to imagine pricing structure led to a long long joke about the whole thing. Maybe the guy is a blast to hang out with, but you gotta pay a lot of money to find out.

I have enjoyed Fairchild's Sigaro cab and tasting wine on his patio with my wife, but this is just plain nuts. A mag, I guess its a mag, of California Cab for 3k?? I just can't imagine someone paying that, regardless of how pretentious they may be. Isn't that more than Screaming Eagle (off the list)? I suspect this wine will be far better than the Ghost Horse stuff.

Still its hard to see this market other than one driven by massive ego, that of the producer and customer alike.

What a massive blow hard! A self loving, self absorbed, superficial piece of crap. Never in thirty plus years of covering wine, has someone has made so negative an impression.

Does this mean Screaming Eagle is going to raise prices again? They are already $3,000.00 in the secondary market. Somewhere in a parallel universe, there is the sound of Henry Winkler jumping over a shark. Now all we need in Napa to completely turn it into Disneyland III is a fairy-tale castle...oh wait...that happened already.

Let's be fair. It's a magnum, and it's $3,500. So, $1,750 a bottle. And there's a fence that borders Screaming Eagle's vineyard!

There is an old song from the sixties by a one hit wonder called Peter Sarstedt. He is singing about a more accomplished fashionista, and still wonders, “Where do go my lovely, when you’re alone in your bed?” I couldn’t help wondering what happened to Larry, once he took off his Basquiat socks.

I love everything about this...

The pewter, the Instagram pages of the founders at places like Hotel du Cap, the NY PR agent talking about wines selling out in minutes and just spinning a web of nonsense.

It is very 2019. It reminds me of a higher budget version of this gem:

“It’s indescribable. An experience, not a taste”.

Sounds like a Galloni note.

Funny that the video is 98% about making the massive bottle, not about the wine, or the making of the wine, itself.

I heard if you drink two bottles in a single night you’ll ascend directly into a state of Nirvana and actually become one with the pendant that is embedded in the bottle.

I mean, the production quality of the video is pretty damn high....but as Robert mentioned, it tells you absolutely zero about the wine. It just screams marketing gimmick....and has to be probably the most narcissistic thing I've ever seen in the wine world.

P.s. anyone else a little creeped out when they pan to a close up of his face after he lights his cigar and he stares straight into the camera for a very uncomfortable amount of time?

Though from what I'm reading in this thread the Jancis article seems to reference the other guy, not Todd and Ghost Horse.

Guys, this wine was at a recent Fairchild event and I can say that I’ve physically touched the bottle. Lawrence was there himself and from the two times I’ve met him I can say he’s a great guy. He’s easy to speak to and he showed up himself to pour wines at our auction which says a lot.

Although this wine wasn’t being poured, there was a sign up list to buy it and believe it or not, there is a lottery to get it. Several people I know requested one. Laugh all you like based on the price, but there is a market for this.

And it’s not a working clock but the arms do move. The bottle itself is a work of art. His wines are well made and I own several, but clearly this is a different price point.

What exactly does it say? That he understands basic marketing? That he knows that a wine like this is much more about the ‘story’ than what’s actually in the bottle, and thus he’s there to tell it? That he’s stoking what he hopes to be the next cult sensation?

And I can only chuckle at the idea that he was there, as was the bottle of wine, and the signup sheet, but of course the contents of the bottle happened to not be available.

I have no doubt that there’s a market for this sort of thing...
