  • 2016 Dominique Piron Morgon Domaine de la Chanaise - France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon (3/10/2019)
Purchased off the wine list at Boucherie, West Village. Lighter garnet ruby. Nose of red berry, earthy soil, stone, bright floral notes. Layers of cherry and strawberry with a hint of rhubarb on the palate with nicely defined acidic spine and firm tannin. Longer finish of primary red strawberry fruit on stone. Doing nicely and likely to age well. (90 pts.)
  • 2013 Pietroso Brunello di Montalcino - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino (3/9/2019)
Purchased off the wine list at Ciccio. Dark red garnet. Reticent nose for about 45 minutes, followed by wafts of red earth, sun dried tomato, camphor, intense floral notes. With time in the glass the palate also deepened appreciably, revealing layers of slightly tart strawberry and dark cherry fruit cut with earth and leather. Significant acidity balanced chewy young tannin masked by loads of primary fruit. Long finish of chiming red sweet tangy red fruit, stony earth, and cut. Showing nicely in its primary state with all the tools needed for long evolution. (91 pts.)
  • NV Ulysse Collin Champagne Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs Les Maillons - France, Champagne (3/8/2019)
Purchased off the wine list at Cookshop. Pale gold color. Schist and citrus on the nose. Laser sharp delineation of acidic white pineapple, applecore, and pink grapefruit cut with lime and rock on the palate with etched bubbles and spritz almost as an afterthought. Long finish of energetic white grippy fruit on steel. Remarkable presence and drive. (92 pts.)
  • 2017 Paul-Henri Thillardon Chénas Les Carrières - France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Chénas (3/8/2019)
Purchased off the wine list at Cookshop. Red ruby hue. Nose of strawberry blossom, earth, meadow flowers, fresh-cut berry. Primary red plum, Bing cherry, and strawberry fruit on the palate with earth and hints of spice and iron beneath. Young tannin and broader structure reigned in by fresh acidity. Moderately long finish of tart cherry fruit and earth. In its infancy but very promising. (90 pts.)
