Classic. When you get your first shipment, be sure to take pics for your scrapbook. In the privacy of your abode you can even rub yourself on the bottles.

A month or two back, Florida Jim Cowan tasted through three or four SQN's and expressed my sentiments.
I've tasted about ten of them.
I was right there when Rudy drove in at the exact moment a half-barrel of HdR SQN Grenache came up at auction to scoop it up irrespective of price with his paddle lifted just once and held overhead until the deed was done.
I suffered a drunken verbal brawl with a very good and much missed friend (he died a few years later) over my allegation that he was a trophy collector with little or no objective appreciation of the intrinsic quality of the wine without the cache' and label.
SQN and any spin-offs are to use a medical analogy-a straight leg raising test for my wine-based L5-S1 sciatica. Maximally provocative for a predominant problem in the world of wine.

Nobody seems to know if stylistically these are wines that pair best with a cheese course, or as a stand alone experience, sorta fruit in your face "unctuous and well endowed" Parkerization apex examples, or ?
Over a hundred for Grenache or Syrah with no track record is out of line, IMO.

Caymus Family Wines, or Krankl family wines=marketing power and excitment, huh?

It would seem that it was indeed priced right for an inaugural release. Unlike some other recent releases that come to mind (i.e. Accendo, Per Us, etc...)

Let’s be honest, with his last name the first release will of course be sold out quickly. Only after people actually taste the wines will we know if it continues with this momentum. With his access to fruit sources and dad’s resources I’m sure it won’t disappoint. He’s having a tasting/dinner at The Inn here in town. At $375 I had to pass. The LA crowd will eat it up though.

Been away from this for a couple of days and missed a needless rather silly comment...

Hey Jordan, no way I am interested buying an overpriced, potentially overripe, unknown wine, because of family association, was that not obvious? Freakin duh!
Here, I will try again
I simply posed a question, has anybody tasted any of the wines before paying $100+ for an untasted, overpriced potentially overripe California Syrah or Grenache, not an unreasonable concern for an experienced consumer to have.
Lots of folks around here like to try wines before they buy them. Has that escaped you?

The name comes from the Old English faedm or faethm, meaning outstretched arms.

Not sure on the pronunciation. In my brain, I pronounce it like a unit of measurement of depth.

I am a little confused over the animosity on the pricing of these wines. They are obviously not cheap. But from what I have seen out of a lot of the new projects in Napa, they are relatively cheap. Why does Napa get a pass when the first release is more than the most expensive bottle in most AVA's?

Let’s think critically. Is it possible for this wine to be bad and sub 98? Highly doubtful. This is SQN. Critics needs SQN, they won’t dare bite the hand of Manfred and Elaine’s offspring.

Did I get some? Yes. Am I a sheep? Also, yes. Will I rub myself on the bottles..maybe.

in 2019 i don't think critics need any label.

id say if alan was still alive he'd publicly bitch about the price but privately buy it.
personally, im in. the marketing and wood cases don't really make it move for me but different strokes.

While the price is a bit steep (and I can see people being supportive of the price and the converse,) I decided to make this my "special treat" leap and went for it. Kind of exciting!

I will Pobega one of each early on and will report back.

Shipping was $25 for me. Didn't check if there were options. It's generally overnight anyway for ground shipping given that it is on the Central Coast.

Have any consumers received any? Tried any? Really curious for non-professional tasting notes.

Did any of you attend any of the dinners he's had - or has there only been the one in Ojai?

Cheers.
