TN: 2012 Francis Ford Coppola Director's Cut Cinema (USA, California, Sonoma County)

  • 2012 Francis Ford Coppola Director’s Cut Cinema - USA, California, Sonoma County (2/17/2019)
Day 1: Pleasant nose raspberries, dust and spices. On the palate nice overall with spices, red currants, floral notes and black pepper. This is a blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45 Zinfandel, 4% Petite Sirah and 2% Syrah. Drinking well on the pop and pour and we shall see where this is on day 2. 87 points
Day 2: A bit more mellow on day 2 with spices, red currants, dust and a touch of chocolate. Medium finish and smooth drinker. This is at a solid spot right now and I would consumer these over the next few years. 88 points
Recommendation: Drink now. It has a few more years left of drinking enjoyment and at $10 Closeout Pricing at Sid’s/ Big Top a fabulous QPR. (88 pts.)

I had the 2013 Directors Cut Cabernet [Alexander Valley] which I’d opened to get a cup of wine for a sauce. I’d had it since release, and honestly, it was pretty bad - flabby/syrupy/soft/pruney/figgy.

The label of this is interesting (it wraps around the bottle a few times, and is worth spinning) but the wine inside is cloying, commercial 14.5% abv goop. Even after a couple days, and some air, it remains the same. I might have a few other low end supermarket 2013 cabs hiding in boxes of long agers, and I’m going to extract them. Aging doesn’t seem to improving this ilk…

Probably $15 on release, and poor QPR unf.
