1979 Sociando Mallet

This is awesomely young. Plenty of fruit and moderate attractive tannins.
Wonderful depth with layers of exotic spice. Loong finish
Even better than the excellent 1988 i recently enjoyed.
Thanks to Alfert for nudging
A delicious wine to sip while my pallet of 2005 and 2010 Burgundies mature [cheers.gif] [cheers.gif]

Well done…Sociando is top notch…great quality and one of the most consistent chateau

Yes indeed
And this one was dark colored with no brownish rim.
But the nose is just fantastic after approx 5 hours
Look younger than e.g. the otherwise great and funky 1983 Talbot I had last week

Thanks for sharing, that’s quite a treat! I’m not sure that I have had the ‘79, but over the past year or so, have had 82, 83, 85, 86, 88, 90 etc. Almost always strong showings.

I wonder what the tariff for that bottle was, $8.00?

I paid $6 a bottle for the 1982, so probably lower.

Just had my first this weekend. It was a ‘99 and it caught me by surprise how good it wa.

It was 45$ for me in 2018

Just had a 2003. Perfect! You would never guess the vintage if tasted blind. No heat. No over-ripeness at all. There’s even the merest hint of green bell pepper/bay leaf. A much abused term, but it’s absolute classic Bordeaux. Tastes about 5 years old. Will last Decade(s.)

The few times we’ve chased down 70’s era S-M in the US for tastings they were always crazy expensive. It was a Musar like pricing.

(and agree on the 2003)

Have had the 79 a couple of times, as well as all those 80s. Didn’t enjoy the 79 as much as all those 80’s.

We are having 85 and 86 in April.
