2009 Calot Beaujolais ALERT!

In 2010 I wrote the following review:
2009 Jean Calot Morgon VV Cuvee Unique - 13% - $24.75
Dark purple/crimson color. Great nose of roses and violets;quite floral.
Spicy, powerful, minerally, primary chocolate cherry fruit with a very long finish of blackberries.
Has ripe tannins and good acid. This has great balance and should age like a fine Burgundy.
Kind of a blend between the above two wines with all the best aspects of each.
One of the finest Cru Beaujolais in my experience. I bought me some. [94 pts]

I opened a bottle last week and it was VERY advanced and somewhat flat.
I’ve opened my last two since then and again were advanced but much better than the first.
The jumbo ripe fruit has really receded into more like a dried fruit profile with just enough acid to keep it in a tenuous balance.
This has not lived up to my lofty expectations.

I urge you all to drink these puppies up!!!

I bought a few of these off your post way back then, and I have observed the same thing as you. Delicious in a bigger way when first released, but a few years later, they had gone way downhill.

At least not an expensive miss on the few I held onto.

I looked and I actually have one 2009 left, but of the VV, not the Cuvée Unique. I’ll give it a run and post here.
