TN: 2014 Johan Vineyards - Blaufränkisch (USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley)

2014 Johan Vineyards Blaufränkisch - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (1/31/2019)
– decanted 15 minutes before initial taste –
– tasted non-blind over a few hours on Day 1; re-visited on Days 2 and 7 –
– score is from Day 1 –

NOSE: cherry, with a hint of citrus; pleasant spices (likely oak-derived); floral hint; I could easily mistake this for a Pinot Noir if served blind.

BODY: violet-garnet color of light depth; clear; light to medium-light bodied.

TASTE: 13.2% alc. not noticeable; quite light; high acidity; red-fruited, with moderate bitterness on the finish; light concentration of fruit; very light oak; there is very little in the way of stuffing here: many Bourgognes have more depth; the couple Schuster wines I’ve had are better (and cheaper); no tannin; Ashley likes this more than I — she’d be happy to pay up to $35, whereas I am unhappy having paid $30. This did put on some weight and depth over the following days, representing a slight improvement over Day 1, but I’m still not impressed. Drink Now or Hold.
