TN: Ridge Zin HookerCreek '14...(short/boring)

Tried this this weekend w/ Susan:

  1. Ridge Zin HookerCreek/SonomaVlly/SonomaCnty (BedrockVnyd; 96% Zin/2% AlicanteBouschet/2% PS; 2% water
    addition; 15.0%; 34 brls; bttld 12/2015; Drk: 9/15-9/21-9/22: JO) 2014
: Dark color; strong blackberry/boysenberry/Zin/quite spicy classic SonomaVllyZin rather dusty/OV some vanilla/Am.oak rather fragrant nose; lightly tart strong blackberry/raspberry/Zin/rather spicy strong Am.oak/vanilla quite dusty/OV bit complex flavor w/ light tangy tannins; very long bit tart strong raspberry/blackberry/Zin/very spicy fairly dusty/OV strong vanilla/Am.oak finish w/ light tangy tannins; a pretty classic SonomaVlly Zin done in the Ridge style; nothing about this wine shouts BedrockVnyd but reminds slightly of the Bedrock/Bedrock but not as intense & much more oak; another pretty Ridge Zin but just that. $30.00 (Z-List)

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. I first tasted this in Aug’16 and liked it quite a lot. I still like it but it’s not at the level of the LS or Pagani. HookerCreek is, of course, Ridge’s historical name for the BedrockVnyd.

I wasn’t impressed by this. The Ridge Carmichael at a similar price interests me much more.

Yup, George…I would say that the last 2-3 vintages of Carmichael have been very good & better than the HookerCreek.

I have gotten to the point with Ridge “Zins” that I mostly just buy Geyserville, Lytton Springs and, when I want a cheaper alternative, Three Valleys.
