Here we have a real bargain from Piedmont for 28€. According to a german wine merchant a declassified Barolo. Whatever this Langhe Rosso offers a lot of Piedmont bang for the buck. Classic aromatics of licorice, tar, rose petal and a fine complexity.
I adore this wine. Over-performs its price point year after year. The 2010 was the first one that I had and I have been a Roagna enthusiast since.
And even “young vine” is a relative term; most of the vines that make their way into this wine are ~25 years old at this point and produce complex fruit. Most producers would smack a Barolo label on this bottle and double the price.
I had a bottle of the Roagna recently and although I liked it, to my palate the Albe 2013 is a step up and delivered more drinking pleasure at a similar price…
