TN: 2001 La Spinetta (Rivetti) Barbaresco Vürsù Vigneto Starderi

2001 La Spinetta (Rivetti) Barbaresco Vürsù Vigneto Starderi - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco (1/30/2019)

The last of the 5 bottles I purchased on sale for $25 back in 2007. This wine has been made since 1996. It is 100% Nebbiolo and has 14.5% alcohol. The grapes come from 35-45 year old vines. Aged in 100% new French oak barriques. Slightly less than 1300 cases are made. Not decanted. Deep reddish purple color. Dry texture with solid tannins. Aromas of a wet earth. Modern style of Barbaresco but not overaoked. Well balanced. A full bodied and dense wine with notes of black cherry, licorice and spice box. Long finish. Among the best of my 5 bottles and still showing well at 18 years old. 92-93 points.
