- Z-H Cllrs PinotNoir ValleyFoothillsVnyd 2016: Med.color; rather bright/black cherry/PN bit earthy/dusty light pencilly/oak slight herbal/rosemary very attractive fragrant nose; quite tart/tangy/bit lean bright/black cherry/PN/spicy light pencilly/oak bit earthy/dusty bit rustic flavor w/ light tangy tannins; very long bright/black cherry/PN/bit licorice some earthy/dusty/herbal very light pencilly/oak finish w/ light brisk tannins;lots of bright PN fruit w/ an earthiness that suggests a RedBurg village wine; reminds a bit of the Navarro DeepEnd Pinot; a pretty classic AndersonVlly PN that needs a few yrs to shed some tannins. $nc (CH)

- This is a wine that has a story. This is a wine made by Casey Hartlip and his ValleyFoothillsVnyd foreman. After pressing and being put to barrel, this gift barrel from a local wnry, they realized it had not been used recently and was leaking badly. Hurridly racking back to the tank, they were short about 5 gal of a barrel. From a wnry that takes Casey’s grapes, they were able to get a sound barrel and another 5 gal to put the wine to barrel.
Casey felt the wine lacked depth & focus. He had crushed 4 tons of leftover Beaujolais-clone Pinot that Grazi took in at 30 Brix. This was then used as blending material to tweak the remaining Pinot. As Casey says…“it takes a village” to make a wine. So this is Casey’s “village” wine. It has enough earthy/dusty character to remind me a lot of a village RedBurg…but the AndersonVlly origins come thru loud and clear. An absolutely delicious Pinot. Thanks, Casey.
