TN: 2002 Château Léoville Poyferré (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien)

Even after 16+ years, the color shows virtually no evolution. Impenetrable. Dark and really brooding nose shows cassis, currant bush, green coffee beans, eucalyptus, and a slightly fresh woody note that comes off as very slight sourness – reminds me a bit of the quite oaky 2001 La Tour Carnet, in that regard. Plenty of dense fruit – it’s roundish and pretty deep though the finish is pretty modest. Better than expected. I’d suggest drinking now for fear that the fruit might start to fade at a faster pace than the oak. (91 pts.)

Glad you enjoyed it. I had this a few weeks back and it suffered in comparison to a better than expected 02 Pape Clement I had a few days earlier. I found it rather hollow. No note, but my bottle was not better than an 87.
