TN: 2001 Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Auslese **

**2001 Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Auslese **** - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (1/27/2019)

The 1st of my 3 bottles. Purchased for $36 on release. Opened at Lao Sze Chuan in Chinatown. The cork came out in one piece although a little soft. Gold yellow color. Rich and very deep. Notes of pears, tropical fruit and stone fruit with fine minerality and a long finish. Excellent balance between the sweetness and acidity. Still drinking well on day 2 as well. This was the best Christoffel wine I have had (22 notes total). I liked it better than either the 2001 or 2003 UW Auslese*** wines. It is in a really fine place right now. 96 points.

Great note. Sounds like this has plenty of life ahead. Love the day 2 consumption and holding up great.

2001 Christoffel is so much fun.

Have a few of these – don’t think I’ve ever opened one yet. Thanks for the note. Sounds like there’s a lot to look forward to. Btw, the Spatlesen are tasting awesome now.
